FAYEK'S HOUSE

When Fayek built the grand villa he refused to live in it out of respect for his father, so he rented a house across the road and gave the new house to his father, Farid, to live in. This, perhaps, sums up the kind of love and respect father and son had for each other throughout their lives.

The villa served as a refuge for other family members who were kicked out of their homes in 1948, including Wasfi who came from Jerusalem.

Fayek died around 1960 and Farid died of heartbreak 2 weeks later. When the house was converted to a girls' school, Fayek, ever the modest man, requested it to be named it after his best lifelong friend Adel Zuaiter, a name it retains to this day.
