  • 2 cups normal rice (Egyptian type)
  •  2-3 tbs. spoons vegetable oil or butter
  •  1 cube meat or chicken stock
  •  A pinch or salt to taste

Because of its importance as a staple food, rice has considerable cultural importance. Rice is often directly associated with prosperity and fertility. Therefore, there is the custom of throwing rice at weddings

Plain Rice

  1. Put the rice in a strainer and wash it very well in cold water to wash the starch off.
  2. Fry rice for a couple of minutes in the oil or butter in a small non-stick pot.
  3. Boil water with the meat stock cube or a pinch of salt and pour enough to cover the rice plus  one centimeter (1/2 inch)
  4. Let boil then lower fire to minimum, cover well and let cook for 20 minutes.
  5. Turn over into a cake like shape in the serving dish.
  6. Serve hot.
