- 1/2 kg dried Fava beans
- 1/2 cup of crushed yellow lentils
- 1/2 tea spoonful Bicarbonate of Soda
- 1-2 Lemons
- 1-2 cloves of Garlic
- 1/4 cup of Olive Oil
- Salt & hot pepper to taste

The roots of foul medammis can be traced to Ancient Northern Sudan and Egypt. Quantities of beans have been found in Twelfth Dynasty tombs (1991–1786 BC). Fava beans were also mentioned in Hittite texts and the Bible. Ramses III of Egypt is known to have offered 11,998 jars of beans to the god of the Nile.

- Soak dried beans over night in water with 1 tea spoonful
of sodium bicarbonate.
- next day, pour out water and put beans together with the
lentils in a tight cooking pot.
- Cover with water and let boil then leave on very low fire
till beans are very well cooked and quite pulpy.
- Remove from fire, add crushed garlic, hot pepper, salt and
lemon juice to taste and mix well.
- Pour into a bowl and add olive oil on top.
- Serve with warm pita or Arabic bread
